A candid conversation about fear on Global's Spotlight Hour with Linda Olsen - a reflection on uncertainty, resilience, and choosing to step forward even when it’s uncomfortable.
On The Spotlight Hour, I join Linda Olsen for a conversation about fear – how it shapes us, how it stays, and how we can keep moving anyway.
I used to think fear was something to push through or overcome. Now I see it more as information – not a stop sign, but not something that gets to lead either. It hasn’t disappeared from my life, but my relationship to it has completely changed. I listen to it now, instead of letting it decide for me.
- In the mountains, fear is obvious – exposure, conditions, objective risk.
- In everyday life, fear is quieter – it shows up as self-doubt, comparison, needing reassurance.
- Ironically, I trust myself more in the mountains than I sometimes do in relationships or stillness.
The real work for me hasn’t been facing fear on a mountain – it’s been facing it in the quiet moments where there’s nothing to prove.
Discernment: Not All Fear Is the Same
- Some fear is protective – it’s there to keep you alive.
- Some fear is conditioned – it’s there to keep you small.
Learning to tell the difference has been one of the most important skills I’ve developed.
This conversation offers a deeper look at how we can move beyond fear, not by eliminating it, but being curious about it and learning how to walk with it.
